Birdon Pty Ltd has been showcased in the Federal Government’s Defence Export Strategy, released late last month.
The strategy sets out the policy and strategy to make Australia one of the top ten global defence exporters within the next decade.
It also includes a number of support mechanisms for small to medium enterprises looking to break into the industry, including an additional $4.1 million for grants to help them compete internationally.
“Most people think that its only the really big corporations that can secure this kind of work but Birdon has shown than SMEs can be innovative and effective in this industry,” Birdon Australia general manager Peter Besseling said.
“The Federal Government was very supportive in helping us achieve this milestone by offering us financial guarantees which helped fund the startup operations.
“It is fantastic to see the government’s commitment to growing this sector.”
The Turnbull government has described the plan as an ambitious, positive plan to boost Australian industry, increase investment, and create more jobs for Australian businesses.
“Birdon is excited to be part of this industry and this investment by the Federal Government gives us the confidence that it is sure to grow from strength to strength,” Mr Besseling said.
