Birdon Pty Ltd is proudly an Australian owned global company, providing whole of life solutions to multinational defence, government, maritime energy, and resource sectors. With continual growth and diversification, we are currently seeking for a Marine Supervisor to join our team in Dampier.

This role reports to the Dampier Slipway Project Manager and is accountable to ensure all marine projects are completed safely, to the agreed quality and technical standards, within budget and on schedule.

This core responsibility of this role is to supervise Leading Hand/s, tradespersons and other team members engaged on Birdon Marine projects at the Marine Slipway based in Dampier (and other locations as directed from time to time).

The Slipway Supervisor – Marine takes a long-term view of the production scope to be achieved and plans resources and materials to deliver the required outcomes and the co-ordinates multiple work fronts concurrently.

Accountabilities:

  • Conducting risk assessments prior to production work commencement, documenting control measures and briefing team members of the HSEQ actions and processes required
  • Ensuring safety processes are complied with
  • Job / work site set up
  • Ensure safety records, Permits, SWMS and Take 5’s are completed
  • Authorising Permits to Work
  • Ensure team members are appropriately competent and trained to under-take the scope of work assigned,
  • Training and development of apprentices
  • Progress team members Verification of Competencies for key plant and equipment.
  • Planning for materials, personnel and equipment resources
  • Ensure materials, tools and equipment are available as required by communicating with Project Managers, Purchasing, and workshop staff.
  • Management and assignment of Leading Hands and trades to execute project scope to agreed scope, schedule, budget and quality.
  • Reporting and management of variances to scope, schedule, budget and quality to the Port Macquarie Shipyard Manager and Birdon Project Management
  • Keep staff accountable for correct recording of hours and activities. (Deputy)
  • Leadership development and mentoring of Leading heads
  • Roll modelling of acceptable workplace behaviours consistent with Birdon’s Code of Conduct and values.
  • Representing Birdon when meeting with Customer Representatives
  • Conflict management
  • Management of and when required reporting and escalation of poor workplace behaviours to the Shipyard Manager.
  • Demonstration of skills such as compassion, active listening, simplifying complexity, clear and frequent communication, teamwork, influencing key stakeholders, motivating your team, responding constructively to feedback and solving problems.
  • Identifying the Quality standards to be met
  • Communicating the required standard of work, supporting the team to achieve the required standard, and measuring that standards are achieved. (ITP’s, WPS, WPQ).

Essential:

  • Trades Qualification;
  • 10 Years trade experience;
  • 5 Years supervision experience;
  • Construction White Card Drivers license
  • Outstanding communication, leadership and people management skills
  • Service-oriented team player with a “make it happen safely” attitude
  • Computer Literate (Able to use Excel, Word, Deputy etc.)
  • Good written and verbal skills

Desirable:

  • Other licenses for HRW, First Aid, other trade qualifications and skills.
  • Dock Master qualifications
  • Comfortable working with all levels of internal and external stakeholders,
  • including Military, Government and Commercial customers
  • High level of computer literacy
