Birdon’s 78th Work Placement Student

Birdon recently accepted our 78th work placement student. Britney came to us from Hastings Secondary College – Westport Campus and experienced a week as a boilermaker. Under the supervision of Gary Smith, Britney developed her aluminium welding skills. By the end of the week she had built a toolbox from scratch and experimented with a variety of different weld techniques.

Receiving this feedback from Britney reiterates to us how important it is to support students in the community. This is what Britney shared about her experience at Birdon:

“I found out about Birdon via school and how previous students had an amazing experience when they went for work placement.

I have an interest in welding and found out Birdon has a variety of opportunities for Boilermakers. My experience as a work placement student was eye-opening as I learnt so many new and interesting facts and techniques about welding.

I thank Birdon for this opportunity as they have given me an insight of what it’s like to be a Boilermaker and I’m grateful as I enjoyed every new lesson I was given”.

It is great to see young local women keen to be involved in manufacturing and Britney showed great enthusiasm, skill and attitude during her time here. We were glad to be able to provide her with some practical industry experience and are always keen to support young people in our community, like Britney, to develop their skills through trade apprenticeships and traineeships.
