FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

An Apprenticeship is a learning pathway combining on the job experience with formal training under a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The Apprenticeship is established under a training contract between the Service and the Apprentice and is regulated by the NSW Government.

At Birdon we celebrate diversity, recognising the value of providing equal employment opportunities in the workplace.

We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply. Our only requirement is that you have completed Year 10 prior to commencing your Apprenticeship.

The length of your Apprenticeship will depend on the Trade and Qualification your are completing, but generally range from 3 to 4 years.

A typical structure will see you attend Training with the selected RTO either one day a week or in a block release pattern. This will depend on the Qualification you are completing and the Registered Training Organisation providing the course.

Birdon is here to help you succeed. We want you to have an enjoyable work and study life, learning as much as possible to become a highly valued member of the Birdon Team.  Your Support Network will include mentors, supervisors, colleagues, a program coordinator and classroom trainers.

The People & Culture Team will ensure all stakeholders are aware of their legislative obligations relating to the supervision and development of all Apprentices.

As an Apprentice you will be provided with all personal protective equipment (PPE) and uniforms required throughout the course of your training.

There is a trade discount program available for any tools needed for your training.

The People and Culture Team are responsible for the overall coordination of the Birdon Futures Apprenticeship Program. This includes recruitment, onboarding, and professional development as well as acting as a contact between yourself, the Shipyard Manager and Registered Training Provider.

This team is also committed to reinforcing a ‘Safety First’ approach to all assigned tasks and work methodology to ensure a safe work environment.
