Women in Trades: Congratulations Kitiara Porter

Today we celebrated Kitiara Porter as she has officially completed her Cert III in Engineering (Metal Fabrication) through John Henry Institute.  Kitiara completed work placement at Birdon in 2016 before she was signed on as an apprentice in October 2017.

Achieving a trade qualification is a huge milestone that takes commitment, determination, and hard work.

Since 1995, approximately 60 apprentices have completed their trades at Birdon. Trade professions have traditionally been an area dominated by men, but Birdon is passionate about encouraging all young people to consider a career in marine manufacturing.

Kitiara is the first female apprentice to have completed her trade with Birdon and is our only female boilermaker on staff in Port Macquarie. Kitiara is an ambassador for women in trades and a role model for other young women interested in a career in fabrication.

We congratulate Kitiara on this achievement and we are proud to have her as part of our team.
