Birdon is currently working on a major refurbishment and refit of the Newcastle ferries for Keolis Downer. After over 30 years of service, the ferries will undergo upgrades to seating, floors, ceilings, windows, lighting and bike racks with new surfboard racks to be installed. This is a significant project as the Newcastle-Stockton ferry service carries more than 450,000 people each year, with numbers expected to increase. The upgrades will improve customers’ experience on the Newcastle Transport network.
NBN News came to Birdon’s Port Macquarie shipyard to have a look at the upgrades taking place on the Hunter ferry. You can view the news report here.
