Birdon hosted two year 10 students from Hastings Secondary College at our Port Macquarie shipyard on Tuesday.
The students, Heath and Dylan, are interested in pursuing a trade so their visit to Birdon was to give them an insight into what it is like to work as a tradesperson in the maritime industry.
Members of our Birdon team, Brett Davis, Brett DuBar, and Matt Murray, all spoke to the students about their personal experiences and pathways to Birdon and what to expect when pursuing a career in this industry.
The students were taken on a tour of our facilities and were able to have a look at some of Birdon’s current projects including the Sydney Ferry refurbishment and the construction of the new Aid to Navigation vessels for Maritime Safety Queensland.
We would like to extend a big thank you to Leon from Fast Track to Employment for reaching out to us. We are passionate about building opportunities for youth and apprentices at Birdon and it excites us to see students interested in pursuing a trade.
