PORT AUTHORITY NSW FIRE FIGHTING VESSELS
Birdon was awarded the contract to design and construct two new firefighting vessels for Port Botany and Sydney Harbour, replacing two firefighting tugs that have reached the end of their life after 40 years of service.
The award of this contract is testament to the expertise of our in-house engineering team and capability of our tradespeople. The vessel design was developed in consultation with operational staff, providing a vessel that is faster, has greater manoeuvrability and better access to shallow areas.
These multipurpose 18m twin waterjet vessels are the most advanced fireboats in Australia, fitted with two fire pumps and twin 681 NAMJet water propulsion systems (also made by Birdon), providing Port Authority with improved capabilities to respond to fires on the water and other operations including pollution control.
This project saw the creation of 40 jobs at Birdon, as well as the engagement of an additional 20 Subcontractors.
