Birdon has won the state government tender to upgrade and operate the Coffs Harbour slipway.
This follows an extensive overhaul and decontamination of the site which was closed for almost two years.
Birdon Marine general manager Peter Besseling said Birdon planned to install and operate a travellift which will be operational in about 18 months..
“It’s mainly because the environmental issues concerning slipways,” Mr Besseling said.
“Travel-lifts are best practice and eliminate potential for contaminants to enter the waterway.”
Mr Besseling said it is a great opportunity for Birdon.
“I think the community will be very happy to have a facility that’s going to be able to take the boats in and out so that people can maintain them.”
