The Birdon Group continues to strengthen its reputation as a reliable contractor in the competitive defence procurement market in the US.
Its US subsidiary, Birdon America Inc. has been awarded a USD 17.8 million contract with the United States Navy. Under this contract, Birdon will provide Scrap Metal and Waste Removal Operations on the Navy Support Facility (NSF) Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT).
Diego Garcia is the only inhabited island in the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. The naval and airbase facilities on the atoll are leased to the United States where it operates as an isolated and strategic base for the US Defense Force.
Birdon will be responsible for recycling materials such as metal, copper, and aluminium and will dispose of other materials such as plastics and tires in accordance with international regulations and standards.
The project will require strict logistics and disposal management. Birdon’s experience with Secure Asset Disposal, transport logistics, and its successful track record of contracting to the US Department of Defense are strengths that will assist in the execution of this project.
Birdon CEO, Jamie Bruce, said: “This is a great win for Birdon’s international disposal division and testament to our ability to understand customer requirements and provide innovative solutions in remote locations”.
