As we reflect on our achievements in 2024, we couldn’t help to be extremely proud about the fact that our innovative and sustainable approach to the decommissioning of the Ex-HMAS Sirius has been recognised with several prestigious awards in 2024. These accolades highlight our commitment to providing sustainable and domestic solutions to decommissioning, reinforcing our position as a leader in the industry.

Excellence in Innovation – Mid North Coast Business NSW

Birdon Group was honoured with the Excellence in Innovation award from Mid North Coast Business NSW. This award recognises our groundbreaking engineering solutions and innovative approach to the decommissioning of the Ex-HMAS Sirius. By ballasting the ship to the ocean floor and cutting it in half, we were able to safely and efficiently remove the vessel from the water, achieving a remarkable 99.13% recovery rate for recyclable materials

Excellence in Sustainability and Green Economy – Premiers NSW Export Awards

Our commitment to sustainability was further acknowledged with the Excellence in Sustainability aeen Economy award at the Premiers NSW Export Awards. This accolade celebrates our efforts to promote environmental responsibility and resource recovery in the decommissioning industry. The Ex-HMAS Sirius project demonstrated our ability to manage hazardous waste, protect marine biodiversity, and achieve high recycling rates, all while adhering to stringent environmental standards

This award underscores our role in advancing sustainable practices within the decommissioning sector.

Excellence in Sustainability – Asset Management Council

Birdon also received the Excellence in Sustainability award from the Asset Management Council. This recognition highlights our innovative end-of-life asset management solutions and our ability to address complex decommissioning challenges. The Ex-HMAS Sirius project showcased our expertise in managing large-scale maritime disposals, emphasising safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

Outstanding Project – Engineers Australia

Birdon was recognised as an Outstanding Project in the Project of the Year category by Engineers Australia. This prestigious award acknowledges the Ex-HMAS Sirius project as an outstanding engineering achievement, showcasing Birdon’s ability to deliver transformative engineering solutions and set new benchmarks in the decommissioning industry.

By keeping the decommissioning process onshore, we bolstered Australian capability in end-of-life asset management and contributed to the local economy.
